For Starters, I'm Flattered

If you're considering making this a performance, this is the place to look! If you're just wanting to learn more about how to understand the script, this is the place for that too. Thank you for taking the time either way!

Situation

So, Denny's. A lot of folks in workshop were curious where the characters are arriving from. The answer is... the idea I had in my head changed no less than 4 times while writing. Prom, homecoming, exams, a party, they all did different things, etc etc. If you count going back to a previous plan then the idea changed even more times!

Consider the following prompts for actors, although I encourage you to make them your own:

Everest talks with their hands a lot. Maggie has closed body language. Daniel would usually be more expressive but he's very tired here. Jocelyn has open body language and tends to lean towards people when she talks.

Please don't report me to Denny's for copyright infringement I don't know how laws work.

Costumes

Humans:

  • Jocelyn, she/her: Fluffy sweater with a floral pattern over a simple dress.

  • Maggie, she/her: Puffy coat and sweats, pastel color scheme.

  • Everest, they/them: Lots of glitter makeup, a windbreaker jacket and skintight clothes.

  • Daniel, he/him: Jean jacket with a lot of pins and patches, a flannel shirt and jeans.

Narrators:

  • Apprentice: A gaudy outfit imitating the form of formal wear. Think a bright yellow blazer, red vest, green pants, blue shirt. The actor should be made to look featureless, however. White sleeve or mask over the face and black gloves, for example.

  • Senior: Super convenient, it doesn't matter! They never show up. However, imagine the most formal, authority-approved outfit possible for a lower middle management person.
